Failure is a Part of Success
Since Easter is about new beginnings, I thought that I would share ours. I’m a big believer in transparency and honesty. So it doesn’t bother me at all having to admit when I fail because I think that it’s important that people know that failure is a part of success. There is not one successful person out there who hasn’t failed tremendously at least one time in their life.
This article, that was picked up by Market Watch, chronicles and summarizes what happened to our former company, OSI, and how we had to start over completely with SASpine. I hope it inspires many of you who are probably worried right now about the very real possibility of having to start over, your business shutting down, possibly even bankruptcy. God willing that doesn’t happen, but please know that you can come out stronger if you can weather the storm. 💪🏽
Romans 5:3-4
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Generation Change Scholars Program
Alexa has received quite a few awards and scholarships, but I am especially proud of this one because of what it means. She was selected as a “UC Berkeley Generation Change Scholar,” which is awarded to students that they feel have the potential to “change the world” for the better...”game changers, revolutionaries, trailblazers and solution seekers”.
I am so incredibly proud of this young lady. 🙏📚💗
“Pay Attention”
As a consequence of our quarantine, I’ve had a lot of time to watch movies. One movie, in particular, had a scene that struck me. A teenage girl was talking about how she hated her hometown, but when questioned as to why she wrote about it with such detail if she hated it so much, she responded that she just “pays attention”. To which the listener stated something along the lines of paying attention is more akin to love rather than hate.
Maybe it’s a bit early to be retrospective or analytical about the impact of COVID-19, but I think it’s safe to say that we are all paying more attention during this time. Attention to the ones we love, the things that are important and what life is really about.
Attention is to love what indifference is to hate. After all, you pay zero attention to what you couldn’t care less about. The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. I would go so far as to contend that one of the most hurtful things you can do to someone that loves you, is ignore them or be indifferent to them.
When you correct your child, you’re showing them love because you care enough to pay attention. When you sit down and talk with them about their future goals and dreams, you are telling them through your actions that you love them and you want what’s best for them. When your 5-year-old cries to you about her invisible boo-boo and you put a princess band-aid on it...isn’t it a wonder how it magically feels better? Simply by paying attention, you are showing love and that remedies so much pain.
Have you ever noticed how we all love our vacations in a certain city or, mountainside (as was the case in this picture on my way to Montserrat)...but wasn’t that only possible because we just really paid attention to the beauty those places had to offer? Have you ever noticed that the locals don’t typically have anything positive to say about their own city? But when they come to America, they absolutely love it. That’s because they’re paying attention. There’s a tendency to take what we have for granted. It’s easy to find the beauty in places and people if you’re paying attention. Likewise, it’s easy to overlook the beauty if you’re not.
During this quarantine, while Steve has been home, he has made breakfast for everyone in the family every morning. Paying close attention to how we each like our eggs, our dietary constraints, and the kids’ time restrictions due to distance learning. His attention is a manifestation of his love for his family.
I pray that this time has given you all the opportunity to pay more attention to the people that you love and what’s really important in life. It sure has done that for us.
Happy Birthday Ava!
Happy 5th birthday to my sweet, sassy, precocious, and utterly adorable little girl. You are as sweet as sugar and bring a smile to our faces every single day. You make everyone around you feel like the most loved person in the world. 💕💗 You are pure joy, Ava Marie Cyr. 🌸 #avacyr
Happy 15th Birthday
Happy 15th birthday (weekend) to my handsome, talented and extremely intelligent son! We are so incredibly proud of you and the man that you are becoming. I’ve always said that God has big plans for you! Your ability to understand people, your intuition and your instincts are going to serve you well in the future... remember to never let the outside world change who you are on the inside. 🙏
And remember, I will always be able to kick your butt. 😝
UCLA Bound!
This has been one of the most important decisions that Alexa has had to make in her 17 years. Although she was accepted and given scholarships to many prestigious universities, including UC Berkeley, the George Washington University Presidential Scholarship, and the Victors Award at the University of Michigan (all were academic-based), she has decided on and committed to UCLA.
I wanted to thank a few people that have helped her along the way:
Amy Christopher Rowe and Wendy Vick for your constant guidance and encouragement. You both always made her feel like she could do literally anything.
Natalie Baker Williams and Jordan Williams, Kelly Jones Sargeant, Heather Bassham Sumlin, Melissa Trawick-Sullivan, and JJ Smith. As you know, pageants were one of the themes on her resume and the whole purpose, for me, was always to help her become more a more confident, articulate, well-spoken person. You guys all helped tremendously in that process. Especially with regard to the development and expression of her ideas and beliefs; knowing where they come from and how to stand up for them diplomatically.
Nico (and Davida LaHood) for the opportunity to intern with the District Attorney’s office, which led to Gov Greg Abbott’s office. (Not to mention the apologetics lessons, which will serve her well in California). Lol.
Also, Karen Grace for the internship opportunity with Kens5. Another theme on Alexa’s resume was politics, which is what she wants to study as of now. So these experiences were so valuable to her.
Lastly, Tommy Tbone Bounds and Jana Meszkat Bounds, Roderick Batson, Manuel Diotte, Sheila Milner and Karina Villa for all your support with Alexa’s community service endeavors. The most important part of her resume was the community service work she did in San Antonio and Houston. Your support was instrumental in building the basis for her service activities and non-profit, PROject Christ.
We are incredibly proud of Alexa and all the hard work she has put into the last 4 years of school. We are excited that we will be able to visit our firstborn in one of our favorites cities in the world and that she will be literally down the street from my childhood best friend, Jeanne Petrone Arzubiaga.
(BTW, her decision to choose UCLA over Berkeley was mainly based on the fact that Berkeley is more STEM-focused and Alexa, as of now, is a Political Science major.)
Stay blessed and healthy everyone! Special thanks to our huge, crazy and loving family for always being Alexa’s biggest cheerleaders!! 🥳🙏❤️
Never Take Anything for Granted
Going through the situation that we all are facing has reminded me of the unique qualities that we as Americans have in terms of our desire to work, progress, and wake up every morning with a sense of purpose. Years ago I read a book called “The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism” by Max Weber.
Although he was not necessarily a proponent of capitalism, he acknowledges and chronicles the importance of Protestant ideals, such as hard work and discipline, as the basis for the formation of our capitalist society. According to him, it is the spirit of hard work and progress that formed the underpinnings of Western culture.
Whether you agree with Weber or not, I think it has been made clear through our current situation that people have a desire to work, provide for their families and be productive members of society. Our human desire to be useful, help others and care for the ones we love are qualities innate in all of us.
I, for one, am grateful to live in a country where I am able to do this. As a business owner, I am grateful to provide jobs. As an entrepreneur, I am grateful to be able to create businesses that provide jobs.
This has been a stark reminder not to take anything for granted. 🙏
Alexa Received The…
Since my last post, a couple more acceptances came through. Alexa received the Presidential Scholarship at The George Washington University. She was also accepted to UCLA, the number one ranked public University in the country (20 overall). Although we are super proud of her, we’re still waiting on about eight more decisions, some of which are her top choices.
Unfortunately, with the current climate we are really disappointed with all the “last” milestone events that the class of 2020 may likely not experience (prom, graduation etc), but hearing from these colleges has added a certain level of levity to the situation, as well as hope as we focus on the future.
I pray you all can glean some positivity through these trying times. 🙏
Real Down-time
Although this was not a conventional vacation by any means, I really enjoyed the slower pace, limited activities, cooking, and real down-time. We limited our interactions, rested, watched Zoey 101 reruns and Shakespeare in Love.
We celebrated Caden’s birthday early, Alexa’s colleges acceptances thus far, and thanked God for our family’s health.
This is probably the first time I’ve actually felt well-rested after a trip. Usually, I’m exhausted by the time I get home and need a “vacation” from my vacation. Most moms know that family vacations are usually about tending to everybody else’s needs in the family over yours...and when you have four kids ranging from 4 to 17, the “wants” very rarely line-up conveniently.
Here’s to learning how to dial it back a bit and really taking it easy.
Isolation or Solitude
There’s a fine line between isolation and solitude. I’ve always been really comfortable being alone, so this situation doesn’t bother me as far as that part of it goes. But I do hope and pray that everyone is safe and staying healthy. Steve posted an immune boosting regimen the other day. He and I very rarely get sick and when the onset of something creeps up, we follow this regimen and it knocks it out, even better than Tamiflu. Check out his page for the post Steven Cyr. 🙏❤️
OracLe Testimonial
Most of you that know me know that Ashley Rocha has been with our family for about eight years. She started as my nanny and now has evolved into much more than that. I’ve watched her hit many milestones in her life and she’s helped me through many milestones in my life, both difficult and wonderful. She is the reason I have Ava, she is the reason I’m able to manage raising four children well, she has been a confidant, a sounding board and a surrogate daughter. Today, she is still my nanny, but that too has evolved...she helps me to be more productive during the day because of her abilities and intelligence, her technical skills and her ability to understand and digest complicated information.
When I asked her to write a testimonial for OracLe College Consulting, I didn’t give her any guidance and I didn’t tell her what to write, so when I received it, I was very surprised and touched. I’m posting it here, but there are many posted on OracLe’s website and Facebook and Instagram pages.

Guiding and mentoring these teens and young adults has given me the greatest sense of accomplishment. Even indirectly, you never know the impact that your words can have on a person during the course of their life. I’m a huge proponent of education because I believe it is the true equalizer of people. No matter where you come from or where you end up, no one can take that away from you.

“I first met Dr. Cyr & Mrs. Cyr after I graduated high school, since then they have helped and guided me through my college experience and because of their help, support, guidance and love, I am a First Generation graduate. To many people that might not seem like a big deal, but if anyone has been raised in a family where education hasn’t been their foundation or a priority for having a better future, then you will know how hard and foreign things are when you are applying to schools and for scholarships and just anything in general regarding college… you are completely lost and don’t know where to begin because you have no help or guidance.
Mrs. Cyr has taught me a very important lesson in life: “in order to break the cycle you must do it through education.” Mrs. Cyr also taught me things that I would have never thought to learn such as how to start a business, marketing, accounting, how to talk to professionals and even interviewing. Mrs. Cyr has given me many reasons to be thankful to her every day and with all the opportunities she has given me, I decided to go back to school to pursue a different degree (BBA in Cyber Security) that I would have never thought of getting.
I am proud, blessed and thankful to where I am in life and I would have never thought I would be where I am right now. Thank you, Dr. Cyr and Mrs. Cyr for helping me through this journey… I don’t think I could ever express my gratitude for everything y’all have done for me.” -Ashley Rocha
#InternationalWomensDay
Happy International Women’s Day to the ones who mean so much and have inspired me the most in my life.
There should be no secret about the profound amount of love and respect I have for my mother. Coming from a third world country in the middle of one of the most brutal wars in American history, she came to this country with all the odds against her. She made a life for herself and her family. A loving wife and mom, she went on to start her own business in order to take care of her family in Vietnam. She found her way and changed many lives because of her sacrifices.
My mother-in-law, who came from an aristocratic family, but did not marry into one. She encouraged and supported her husband, who had no education of real significance until she encouraged him, supported him and pushed him to get his Master's Degree and two PhDs while she took care of their three sons and helped him to be a successful clinical psychologist.
Ashley, my nanny has become like a third daughter to me. The first-generation college graduate who is smarter than most of the highly educated elitists I have met in my circle of life, including many Attorneys and Corporate Executives. Her ability to grasps difficult concepts so quickly taught me that, other than death, Education is truly the equalizer of all people.
My sister-in-law, Crystal, with her quiet strength and sense of peace, coupled with the love she gives my brother, who I never thought would find the perfect mate for his soul; he has found in her.
Lastly, my beautiful Alexa and Ava. There are no words to describe how proud I am of you Alexa, things that you have accomplished in your life, your maturity and sensibility. Sometimes I have to remind myself that you are still a teenager because you straddle both worlds so seamlessly. I’m most proud of how you have managed to become so strong over the years but maintained your kind, loving nature.
And Ava, I truly believe (and will to my dying day) that you are an angel sent to me from Heaven. You are pure joy and represent everything that is good in our lives. Of every choice I’ve ever made in my life, you’re the choice that I treasure the most. I would choose you 1 million times over.
“Can’t” is a 4-letter word
Colton (aka Colty C) and Zoke performing an original rap Steve wrote about shining God’s light through adversity. 🙏
Colton was so afraid he’d be mocked that he almost didn’t do it. BUT “can’t” is a 4-letter word in the Cyr household; so we continued to encourage him to do it! Never be afraid to “perform” in life out of fear! Always push yourself to reach and exceed your goals in life! Great job guys!!

Another Sweet Testimonial
Having worked with Dr. Cyr and Mrs. Cyr for almost five years, I can confidently say their guidance regarding my academic and career choices have helped me achieve the goals I set out for myself. They have emboldened me to pursue my academic dreams and continuously reiterate the importance and freedom that comes with education. They truly encapsulate a power couple who are both extremely knowledgeable and qualified to assist growing students with their academic and career endeavors. Without the encouragement, support, and advice that I’ve received from the Cyrs and OracLe College Consulting, there is no telling where I would be in my academic journey. As it stands, I am about to graduate with my bachelors degree and begin the application process to law school. Thank you Dr. and Mrs. Cyr for providing me with the tools needed to believe in myself and succeed in an academic setting! Your tools have been invaluable to my success in a University setting and I highly recommend these services to any serious student! ~Katherine Holloway

Today, I received my acceptance offer to Texas Tech's PA program located in Midland, TX. For those of you who don't know, I applied to PA school 4 times and although I didn't get in as soon as I would've liked, the idea of giving up never crossed my mind. Each year, I was offered interviews and even waitlisted at a few programs, which proved to me that I was capable of getting accepted. On Monday 2/17 at my interview, I was told that the school received over 1800 applications and only 230 people were interviewed. Out of the 230 interviewees, 60 students were accepted. I give all thanks to God! I would've given up if it wasn't for Him! I also want to thank my husband Luis Rodaniche and parents, Amelia G Rios & Joseph Rios for believing in me and supporting me throughout this taxing 4-year journey. I love y'all so so much! A huge thank you to LeAnn Cyr & Steven Cyr for helping me with my interviews (my weakness), shadowing and volunteer opportunities and personally investing in my future! And thank you to the rest of my family and friends who believed in me and encouraged me! ~Alyssa Rodaniche
It was a Perfect Storm, but…
This is a great article published in Market Watch and Yahoo Finance of what happened with our former company, Orthopaedic and Spine Institute (OSI), Victory Hospital, and SASpine. A lot of people, especially patients, have asked us and this summary is on point with regard to the history and unraveling.
The article chronicles how OSI was connected to Victory Hospital and how it’s failure was the impetus for OSI’s closing.
It was the perfect storm, but we weathered it. 💪🏽

Oracle College Consulting
I wanted to introduce everybody to my new consulting business that I created, OracLe College Consulting.... to help students find a pathway starting in high school to college and into their careers.
Many people don’t know this, but I started my career as a College Career Counselor (that’s actually what my graduate degree is in). I spent many years guiding students in college and graduate school on career and educational choices. I went on later to helping corporate executives as a Consultant, assisting them in developing their resumes and next steps in terms of promotions and strategic career choices. I worked with Fortune 500 companies and their staff, Universities and their students, for almost a decade before “retiring,” becoming an Entrepreneur and opening businesses, mainly medical, with my husband.
Walking my firstborn, Alexa, through this process, I realized that a lot of things have changed, but one thing that hasn’t changed is that people still don’t understand how to develop a strategic plan for their future. My kids are fortunate because I started them before their freshman year in high school in developing a pathway that is focused and has meaningful, directed content. I realized a few things in talking to their fellow students and parents:
1. Most people do not know what it takes to not only write a resume, but to “develop” one over the course of years so that it has substantive content.
2. Articulating in an interview is difficult for many. Communication skills are imperative to illustrating who you are.
3. Having the educational knowledge to take tests is one thing, but students take tests ill-prepared and had they done simple things and learned basic fundamentals, their scores would have increased.
4. Researching colleges is typically understated, yet such an important part of the application process, especially the supplemental essays.
5. Lastly, the application process can’t be underestimated. The importance of writing an incredible personal statement is so important and takes a tremendous amount of time and depth. It’s one of the most important papers you will write as a high school student.
We have been helping students for many years with regard to career choices, college applications, interviewing and mapping out a plan for their future. If you or someone you know needs our services, please contact us: www.OracLeCollegeConsulting.com
Your Wingman Forever
Happy 49th Birthday to my handsome husband of 20 years! I truly believe that God brought us together purposefully and for reasons that we may not even fully understand in our lifetime. Nevertheless, I am grateful that he has given me the most loving, sincere, intelligent and dignified man to spend my life with.
You inspire me every day by your positivity and how, no matter what the enemy does to try to bring you down, you spend very little time giving it any real attention. You just keep on pressing on...doing the right thing for your patients, loving your family, and being a friend to your friends.
I truly believe that you are anointed by God and, as crazy as this seems, I feel like I was put here to help you serve a greater purpose.
I’m happy to be your wingman forever. ❤️
Superior to Others?
Why are CYRx MD Skincare products superior to others?
Let’s cut to the chase ladies.... medical-grade products are superior to what you are buying over the counter (whether it’s Walmart’s counter or Neiman’s counter) because the difference between an over-the-counter skincare product and a medical-grade skincare product is the same as the difference that exists between a cough medicine that is sold at the local pharmacy and an antibiotic that is prescribed by your Doctor to cure the problem. Over the counter products are designed to sit on the surface of the skin while medical-grade skin care products have been designed to penetrate the epidermis and affect deeper layers of the skin resulting in long term results.
Those are the facts. Stop paying for stuff that doesn’t work and are full of preservatives, parabens & sulfates that are horrible for your skin!
Medical Grade products developed by medical professionals.
